The United Nations (UN) is considering a major overhaul, planning to merge key departments and reallocate resources globally to address U.S. funding cuts, Reuters, citing a UN memorandum, reported.

One potential option is to merge the operations of the World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) into a single humanitarian institution.

The memorandum reportedly suggested merging the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) into the WHO and reducing the requirement for up to six translators at meetings.

It also proposed merging the World Trade Organization (WTO), currently a non-UN legal entity, with UN development agencies.
