U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that President Donald Trump has not proposed unilaterally reducing tariffs on Chinese imports, foreign media reported.

This follows earlier reports suggesting the U.S. was weighing considerable tariff reductions, potentially halving rates in some cases, to de-fuse tensions with China.

Bessent emphasized that the current tariff levels are unsustainable and expressed that he would not be surprised if both nations mutually lowered tariffs.

He added that the White House is evaluating its China policy, considering not only tariffs but also non-tariff barriers and government subsidies.
