US President Donald Trump’s measure to impose a 25% tariff on imported cars has taken effect, which is expected to dramatically increase costs and disrupt the automotive industry's supply chain.

In addition, it is forecasted that additional tariffs to be imposed on certain car parts by May 3 at the latest will also raise new car prices by thousands of dollars and heap pressure on industry sales.

The 25% car tariff will cover over US$460 billion worth of car and car parts imports annually, according to Reuters' analysis. Engines, gearboxes, lithium-ion batteries, and tires are among the items on the list.
