US President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that he had ordered an investigation into technology used in connected vehicles, primarily from China, citing a national security threat.

Biden said in the statement that connected vehicles from China can collect sensitive data about US citizens and infrastructure and send the data back to China. The vehicles can be remotely accessed or deactivated.

He directed Commerce Secretary Gino Raimondo to investigate vehicles equipped with navigational tools, driver assistance features and fast charging capabilities that use technology from "countries of concern".

In Thursday's statement, Biden said China's policies could flood the US market with its vehicles, posing a risk to national security. He will not let that happen during his term in office.
