In the wake of bed bugs issues in the UK, France and South Korea, Caspar Tsui, Executive Director of the Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners, said on a program of Commercial Radio Hong Kong that the industry had exchanged views with the relevant government departments yesterday (8th).

He said the hotel industry would enhance the cleaning of hotel rooms, and would follow the relevant guidelines to deal with bed bugs once they are discovered. He opined that tourists visiting Hong Kong may also bring bed bugs into Hong Kong.

Tsui hoped that the Hong Kong government would cooperate with various public transport operators, High Speed Rail operators and airlines to cut off bed bugs at source, and strengthen liaison with overseas health departments to ensure the transparency of information.

The government should notify the public of bed bug outbreaks as early as possible, and strengthen public education at the same time, Tsui said.
