General Motors (GM.US) has instructed thousands of suppliers to remove parts originating from China from their supply chains, suggesting that they should seek raw materials and components outside of China, Reuters reported, quoting people with the knowledge of the matter. The ultimate goal is to completely relocate the supply chain out of China.

The US automaker issued these instructions to some suppliers as early as the end of last year, sources divulged. However, with the escalation of the US-China trade war this spring, the task has become more urgent. General Motors has set 2027 as the final deadline, requiring some suppliers to terminate procurement relationships with China.
