The AI application in Mainland China, Doubao, launched yesterday (1st) a smartphone assistant, which is installed on ZTE (00763.HK) smartphones and offers various AI functions, Morgan Stanley's research report indicated. Based on the initial user experience, the era of AI smartphones is arriving.

After reviewing the development of AI smartphones, Morgan Stanley viewed there are three potential paths: existing smartphone OEMs developing their own complete AI solutions for 100% deep integration with the smartphone operating system, achieving seamless collaboration between cloud AI and edge AI; existing smartphone OEMs outsourcing cloud AI but independently developing edge AI technology; or existing smartphone OEMs outsourcing both cloud AI and edge AI.

The latest collaboration between Doubao and ZTE is more likely to take the second or third path, Morgan Stanley believed, while considering the first path can provide the best user experience and stronger long-term competitiveness. Among Chinese smartphone OEMs, Morgan Stanley considered Huawei and XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) have more potential to succeed through the first path.
